Position Summary

The Marketing and Commu­ni­ca­tions Program Manager supports the public relations work of WSNA, sharing the voices of WSNA members and the profes­sion of nursing through print and online publi­ca­tions, media relations, and marketing initia­tives. The successful candi­date will work closely with commu­ni­ca­tions staff and our labor relations, organizing, educa­tion, profes­sional practice and public affairs depart­ments to support the goals and prior­i­ties of WSNA. This position reports to and collab­o­rates with the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Assists in the devel­op­ment of and imple­ments marketing commu­ni­ca­tions plans to support events and member­ship growth.
  2. Plans, researches, writes, edits and coordi­nates produc­tion of member commu­ni­ca­tions, including newslet­ters, website updates, blog posts and print marketing collateral.
  3. Manages produc­tion of member magazine, The Washington Nurse, ensuring timely publi­ca­tion and relevant content.
  4. Monitors the WSNA website to ensure continued accuracy of infor­ma­tion, coordi­nating with internal stake­holders to maintain and enhance content through regular updates to the site.
  5. Supports media relations efforts by devel­oping story concepts, writing press releases, distrib­uting infor­ma­tion and culti­vating relation­ships. Serves as back-up media relations officer.
  6. Drafts speeches and talking points for staff, elected leaders, and members for events and media outreach as assigned.
  7. Develops, trains, and prepares members for public speaking and media inter­views including workshops and coaching.
  8. Coordi­nates work with external consultants.
  9. Works with Director of Marketing and Commu­ni­ca­tions on special PR projects and publications.
  10. Builds external commu­nity partner­ships and attends coali­tion meetings.

Education/​Experience

  • Baccalau­reate degree in commu­ni­ca­tions, journalism, marketing or related field or commen­su­rate work experi­ence required. 
  • Minimum five years’ experi­ence in commu­ni­ca­tions, public relations, marketing or related field required. 
  • Experi­ence working with member­ship associ­a­tion or labor union preferred.
  • Experi­ence working in health care preferred.

Essen­tial Skills/​Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal skills with knowl­edge of AP Style
  • Strong commu­ni­ca­tion and marketing skills
  • Strong editing and proof­reading skills
  • Excel­lent organi­za­tional skills, ability to manage multiple projects and prior­i­tize responsibilities
  • Demon­strated effec­tive­ness in working with public officials, media, and other audiences. 
  • Atten­tion to detail and accuracy.
  • Profi­cient in word processing, email and presen­ta­tion graphics applications. 
  • Technical knowl­edge of social media platforms and web content manage­ment tools.

Physical Require­ments

This job requires: 

  • Travel and atten­dance at WSNA events, media oppor­tu­ni­ties and labor actions.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of residence and access to an opera­tional motor vehicle that is currently insured.

Salary: $77,000 to $90,000
